On Sunday, a rag tag group of adventures made their way up to Rancho Del Rio, home of K.K.'s BBQ (Center of the Universe) and popular loading spot for rafters, kayakers and the boldest of water-bound breeds, tubers. Our motley crew was among the latter, and our adventure was epic, at times wild, at times lazy and left most of us with stomachs full of river water. For three miles we braved the mighty Colorado River. Here are the lessons we learned.

On June 5th, Avon held its first whitewater rodeo as well as a free Alpine Quest clinic featuring world champion kayaker Eric Jackson.

The 2007 Teva Mountain Games Paddlecross provided wet, wild action, not to mention numerous crashes, as kayakers attempted to navigate between bouys in class four rapids.

The Avon Recreation District recently cut the ribbon on a new White Water park on the Eagle River in Avon, CO. Kayakers and boaters took turns playing in the new park, testing out the waves and rapids.

As if the Vail Valley wasn't enough of an outdoor playground. This summer, the Avon Whitewater Park, a project over a year and a half in the making, has opened to the public.

Based right here in Vail, The U.S. Women's Raft Team compete annually in the Teva Mountain Games and soon will be heading to the World Rafting Championships in South Korea.
