Karats owner Dan Teleen and featured artist Elizabeth Steiber stop by This Week in the Valley to discuss their ongoing show at Karats. The week long event will feature four artists (including Dan) and will showcase a number of unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. Elizabeth specializes in what she likes to call "statement pieces," big bold works that have a lot to say. She brings one such work, a necklace made of gold and turquoise, to This Week in the Valley.

Spring Sales Around Vail

Spring Sales in Vail

With the ski season wrapping up, be on the lookout for sales. Local shops are unloading their winter goods at great prices.

If you’ve had your eye on a certain pair of skis, boots or parka, but felt your pocketbook couldn’t take the sting, now is a good time to revisit your winter wish list.

Sure, your days of using new winter gear may be numbered, but there is still snow falling, and the bargains are out.

With the ski season wrapping up, local shops are unloading their winter goods and you’re likely to find the outerwear you’ve been coveting all season for half-price.

Skis, boards, gloves, hats, boots, jackets, pants and “Vail” branded sweatshirts are all on sale as shops prepare to trade out their inventory for summer wear and warm-weather equipment. Many shops are also unloading their rental and demo gear on the cheap, so if you truly loved a board or a pair of skis you tried earlier this season, you just might be able to finish off the season on them and get them dialed in for next year.

Places to find deals in Vail include Buzz’s, Patagonia, Quicksilver, Roxy, Billabong and Vail Sports, to name just a few. For a comprehensive list of shops of every ilk throughout the valley, check out our shopping guide.

Lionshead's New Look

Inside Vail Square

Skiers weave through the center of Vail Square from the base area at Lionshead.

Where are we? Innsbruck? St. Moritz? Oh yes … We’re here in the new Lionshead at Vail Square. This isn’t anything like the Lionshead we’ve ever known. Lionshead was formerly that less aesthetically pleasing end of Vail characterized by a handful of classy, yet not architecturally pleasing, shoebox shops and restaurants.

This winter, Lionshead has undergone a major transformation. Rock Resorts completed its grand new hotel – The Arrabelle, featuring luxury rooms with 24-hour butler service and multi-million-dollar residences.

The hotel is wrapped around a village, chalk full of eateries ranging from fancy French fine dining (Centre V) to a brand new Blue Moose pizzeria. New clothing stores include the high-end European-like Avalon to outdoor favorites Burton and Patagonia, plus a Vail Chophouse, a mini ice rink, a Starbucks (of course), and our personal favorite, Rimini. Rimini makes gourmet gelato of every mouth-watering flavor, home-made hot chocolate and panini and is an outlet for the finest chocolates (including gelato truffles) and wines.
