Get Ready to Lift Off at Copper

Making Turns at Copper Mountain

A snowboarder carves under the American Flyer chair at Copper.

Copper Mountain’s launching into the 2007-08 season with a full-blown Lift Off. Vail’s neighbor to the east opens Friday, Nov. 2, with more than just the bells and whistles that typically come with the first season’s revolution of the chairlift and crazed swarm of skiers and riders. Yes, Copper is cranking up its early-season ski fever a few degrees with a flurry of live music and free ski films.

Opening day chair riders who hop on the designated Lift Off chair will also have a chance to win dog-sledding and snowmobile tours, gear tunes and grub. Free films screenings from Plehouse, Poor Boyz, Matchstick Productions and others will be broadcast on the walls and screens of Copper’s bars and restaurants Friday while DJ Yashen, Yamn and Something Underground will play for free Saturday. At 9 p.m. Saturday, you can, for a $12 cover, catch a stacked lineup at Copper’s Conference Center featuring Rahzel from The Roots, DJ Babu from Dilated Peoples and The Beatnuts. Free live music brings down the Lift Off Sunday with Tim Reynolds and Outformation with Sam Holt Jeff Layne and CR Gruver.
