Glenwood Rec Path Closed due to High Waters

Because of flooding dangers, the Colorado Department of Transportation temporarily closed the recreation path between Grizzly Creek and Hanging Lake rest areas in Glenwood Canyon on Tuesday.

It was bound to happen. With temperatures finally hot and summery, the winter's record-breaking snowpack is melting quickly and the rivers are getting higher and faster.

Some of our field agents who happened to be cycling in Glenwood Canyon on Tuesday said that water from the Colorado River had already submerged part of the bike path.

Indeed, Vail's Gore Creek has become visibly more ferocious in the last couple of days and people have begun placing sand bags along the creek where it runs through the Vail Golf Course.

Flooding dangers may subside this weekend as the forecast is calling for cooler temperatures with highs in the low 50s.
