The 2007 Vail Lacrosse Shootout ended in rare form on the Fourth of July with team Go Fast walking away with the men’s elite championship trophy after a 7-6 victory over Lax Grip. Carrying a roster stacked with 35 players, all from Division I schools – Johns Hopkins, Syracuse, Hofstra and Cornell, etc. – Go Fast lived up to its name with some seriously speedy stick handling, sprinting and unreal saves on goal. Lax Grip boasted a contingent of professional and DI players, a couple of whom played for Team Canada’s World Champion team.
A nail-biter from the first draw, the game exploded with turnovers, each team returning the other’s goal like a pendulum swinging. Go Fast pulled ahead with about 10 minutes left, and Lax Grip, despite dishing out a gush of intensity, couldn’t catch up.
In the women’s elite finals, the Outlaws, consisting largely of fire-hot University of Maryland players, ate up Gang Green (from Dartmouth), 18-3. With impeccable mid-field connections and goal-assist combos that were almost too fast to see, the Outlaws were definitely blowing smoke off of their guns from start to finish. Gang Green came on strong in the second half, but with an attack squad containing Jen Adams, Sonia LaMonica, Katie Chrest and Lindsey Munday, the Outlaws simply got on their horses and ran away with the game.
