Putting on The Ritz in Vail

The Makings of The Ritz, Vail

The Ritz-Carlton Residences are, as of yet, a large hole just to the west of the Vail Marriott in Lionshead.

It’s no surprise that a Ritz-Carlton is being built in Vail. It’s actually kind of a wonder it hasn’t happened before now.

Unlike the Ritz at Beaver Creek, which consists of a hotel, spa and high-end restaurants, the Ritz-Carlton in Vail will be strictly residential, featuring 71 two- to six-bedroom condominiums, ranging in price from $2.7 to $11.2 million.

“It’s really the same [as the Ritz in Beaver Creek]. It’s a Ritz-Carlton. Ritz will manage it and it will feature all the quality that people expect of a Ritz,” said Larry Peterson, listing agent for the Ritz-Carlton Residences in Vail.

“Why wasn’t there a Ritz here before? That’s a good question,” he said. “With the redevelopment of Lionshead, a Ritz is more welcome in this area than it was initially.”

Indeed, Lionshead has undergone a facelift (read about it here). In all of its towering, newly polished, old-Europe glory, it now looks considerably better suited to neighbors like a Ritz-Carlton.

The site of the Ritz-Carlton Residences, Vail will be, yes, that giant hole that has taken shape just to the west of the Vail Marriott in Lionshead. The completion of the project is scheduled for spring or summer of 2010.

In addition to the whole ownership residences, a number of the condos will be open to fractional ownership as the completion date draws nearer. While there will not be any on-site restaurants at The Residences, amenities include a lounge, a workout facility with treatment rooms, steam room and movement studio, ski valet, equipment storage, heated garage, valet parking, a Teen Room and Ritz Kids program, concierge, front desk and bell services and 24-hour security. Vail Resorts has also proposed a new gondola which, if built, would be just steps to the west of The Residences.
